Chinese President Xi Jinping noted that it is important to avoid the "Thucydides trap" in bilateral relations between China and the United States. He said this during a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the People's Assembly House in Beijing.

"Whether China and the United States will be able to overcome the so—called Thucydides trap and create a new model of relations between great powers... are questions posed by history, the world and peoples," Xi Jinping said.
