On May 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted the resignation of the Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov. He has been in charge of the region since November 18, 2020. In terms of length of tenure, Gladkov ranked 51st among the current heads of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, having served in office for about five years and six months. Education

Gladkov holds a PhD in Economics, having defended his thesis on agricultural markets. His education includes studies at the St. Petersburg University of Economics and Finance, Penza State University, and a master's degree at the RANEPA. For his success in his work, he was awarded state and departmental awards, including medals for his contribution to the development of housing and communal services and the conduct of the census.

According to official data, the governor's income for 2021 amounted to 3.5 million rubles. The publication of subsequent declarations was suspended due to a presidential decree for the duration of the special military operation. The authorities explained this decision by the need to protect information from unfriendly countries.

Career

The future head of the region began his career in the Penza region. After working in the accounting department of the construction department, he moved to the administration of the closed city of Zarechny, where in nine years he rose from an ordinary employee to the first deputy head. From 2009 to 2016, Gladkov led this city, focusing on economic development.

Later, he held high positions in Sevastopol and the Stavropol Territory. In Sevastopol, he worked as a vice-governor. He expanded his experience by studying at the personnel reserve training program, known as the "school of governors."

Assignment to the Belgorod region

In 2020, Putin appointed Gladkov interim governor of the Belgorod Region. He replaced Yevgeny Savchenko, who led the region for 27 years. A year later, Gladkov won the election of the head of the region, gaining the support of more than 78% of voters.

Gladkov was also appointed to the post of secretary of the regional branch of United Russia. Describing his appointment to Belgorod, the manager noted the efficiency of personnel decision-making at the state level.

Personal life

Gladkov is married, his wife's name is Marina. They have four children and one granddaughter.
