Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering (MIT) on May 13.

The strategic nuclear missile systems Topol, Topol-M, Yars and Bulava were created within the walls of MIT. The company began its work in 1946 under the Ministry of Agricultural Engineering of the USSR under the name Research Institute-1 of powder rockets. The institute received its current name in March 1966.

The organization's specialists participated in the creation of various weapons systems, and since the mid-1950s, they began developing samples of missile weapons with tactical nuclear charges. MIT's achievements include complexes that ensure the operation of Strategic Missile Forces and naval strategic nuclear forces.

In cooperation with other design bureaus and factories, the Institute has developed the field of mobile ground-based complexes with solid-fuel ballistic missiles. This list includes the Temp-S, Temp-2C, Pioneer, Topol, Topol-M, Yars and Bulava systems.

Currently, MIT Corporation is under the jurisdiction of Roscosmos State Corporation. The institute was awarded the Order of Lenin twice for its work, in 1968 and 1976.
