The Bundestag called for a ban on the deployment of US Tomahawk missiles in Germany

The German authorities should prohibit the deployment of intermediate-range ballistic missiles of the US army on the territory of the republic. The corresponding initiative was made by deputies of the German Bundestag from the Left Party.

Bundestag deputies called on the German government to cancel the bilateral declaration signed in July 2024 with the United States on the deployment of intermediate-range missiles in Germany and refrain from deploying American missiles in the country.

According to the text of the declaration, the United States intends to deploy the following types of weapons on the territory of Germany: Tomahawk medium-range cruise missiles; SM-6 extended-range anti-aircraft missiles; experimental hypersonic missiles.

According to German politicians, all European NATO member states should refrain from deploying American intermediate-range missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

Representatives of the Left Party called for the creation of a platform within the framework of the United Nations or the OSCE for states with intermediate-range missiles to negotiate an agreement that would replace the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) between Russia and the United States. In addition, the politicians stated the need for cooperation with the Russian Federation in order for Moscow to reject the possible deployment of short- and medium-range missiles in the Kaliningrad region.
