The priest listed the main prohibitions in Peter's fast
During the Petrov fast, it is forbidden to eat dairy and meat products, quarrel, swear and offend anyone. Philip Ilyashenko, a priest and vice-rector of St. Tikhon's Orthodox University for the Humanities, told Izvestia about this.
"During the days of fasting, one should follow the commandments and improve oneself spiritually. Unity with God is achieved by limiting oneself in terms of entertainment, including delicious food, worldly pleasures and worries. During the days of fasting, one should focus on spiritual self-improvement. It is absolutely forbidden to quarrel, swear, offend anyone," the priest warned.
During this period, weddings are strictly prohibited: according to church canons, the sacrament of marriage is not performed on days of multi-day fasts. Believers are also advised to refrain from noisy celebrations, gambling, as well as from drinking alcohol (a small amount of wine is allowed only on Sunday and Saturday) and smoking.
"Like other fasts, Peter's Fast is a time that is given to us in order to take a closer look at ourselves, find something that needs improvement, and try to fix it," the priest summed up.
Petrov's post is considered "lax". Believers are instructed to abstain from meat, milk and eggs, while fish and vegetable oil are allowed on most days.
"From the point of view of food restrictions, Peter's fast is considered the least strict, since unlike other fasts, you can eat fish and drink wine on it," the priest explained.
