Beglov spoke about the growth of St. Petersburg's industrial potential and the development of AI.

Last year, the industrial production index in St. Petersburg increased by 5.4%. This is four times higher than the average for Russia, said Governor Alexander Beglov, delivering his annual report to the Legislative Assembly.

"In total, the industry in St. Petersburg has grown by almost 60% over the past five years," he said.

The mayor noted that about 90% of the city's total industrial production is accounted for by manufacturing industries. At the same time, Beglov named the machine-building complex as the leader in terms of growth rates: the production of ships and vessels, as well as aircraft, increased by 40%. The mayor also noted the positive dynamics of the pharmaceutical industry and the automotive industry. In 2025, St. Petersburg increased the volume of shipments of cars by 24%, production of BASE trucks began, and the third assembly site in Shushary is being restarted in 2026.

The governor also stated that the total amount of funds invested in technology development over the past five years has exceeded 900 billion rubles. The number of companies operating in the field of information technology has exceeded 6 thousand. This is one of the best indicators in the country, Beglov stressed, adding that their turnover increased by 22% to 378 billion rubles. According to the mayor, St. Petersburg is actively working on the development of artificial intelligence. One of the flagships in this field is ITMO University, on the basis of which a new technological valley is being created. The platform will become a center for the introduction of AI in all sectors of the economy. The first stage will be ready in 2028, the second in 2030. St. Petersburg is also developing other technological valleys of the Nevsky Delta.‑St. Petersburg State University, Technopolis Polytechnic, and the Gazpromneft Energy Hub.
