Sobyanin assessed the demand for the T2 tram route in Moscow
More than 2 million trips were made by passengers on the second Moscow tram diameter (T2) in the first month of its operation. Daily passenger traffic increased by 66%, reaching 83,000 trips, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said in his channel in the Maks messenger.
"Before the launch, a lot of work was done to train drivers, upgrade rolling stock on a large scale, change traffic management, reconfigure traffic lights, modernize infrastructure and arrange convenient and safe stops," Sobyanin said. The tram service interval is six minutes.
Route T2 runs from Chertanovskaya metro station through the center of the capital to Novogireevo metro station. In total, it connects 13 districts of Moscow in five districts, 31 metro stations, the MCC, the MCD and four central railway stations, Sobyanin recalled.
Thanks to the launch of Moscow tram diameters, the load at Komsomolskaya, Krasnye Vorota, Chistye Prudy, Tulskaya and Aviamotornaya metro stations decreased by an average of 9%, the head of the capital noted. "Residents are increasingly choosing modern and comfortable trams for their daily trips," the mayor concluded.
The second Moscow tram diameter T2 was opened in early April. The new route has become the longest in the world, it is served by modern trams Vityaz-Moscow and Lvenok-Moscow, the Moscow City News Agency notes. There are more than 50 cars with autonomous running on the route.
Earlier, Sobyanin reported that the capital's unmanned trams had made more than 3,000 flights. According to the mayor, the innovative transport has already transported more than 100,000 passengers without a single traffic violation.
