Vladimir Molchanov is a Soviet journalist, television and radio presenter, member of the Academy of Russian Television, head of the Journalism Faculty Workshop at the Ostankino Institute of Television and Radio Broadcasting in Moscow. He is familiar to the domestic viewer as the author and presenter of the TV program "Before and after Midnight", which aired from 1987 to 1991, "90 minutes", "I remember ... I love ...", and others. He was the author of about 20 documentaries.

Childhood and education

Vladimir Molchanov was born on October 7, 1950 in Moscow. In his youth, he played tennis and achieved significant success in this sport: he won the USSR Youth Doubles Championship. In addition, he won the Spartakiad as a member of the youth national team of the capital.

In 1967, he entered the Faculty of Philology at Moscow State University, along with journalism, also studying Dutch. He successfully defended his diploma on "Problems of decadence in the novels of Louis Coupeyrus" in 1973.

The beginning of a journalistic career

After completing his studies at the university, he began working in the Western European editorial office of the APN. He held the positions of editor and his own correspondent in the Netherlands. In the course of his work, he also accompanied Soviet delegations arriving in the country as a simultaneous interpreter. He worked at APN until 1986.

In addition, Molchanov is known as an investigative journalist of Nazi crimes during the Great Patriotic War. In the early 1980s, his book "Retribution Must Happen" was published. The journalist received the Maxim Gorky Literary Award and was recognized as the best young author.

Working on television

Since January 1987, Molchanov began working on television. On January 3 of the same year, he began working as a commentator for the international department in the editorial office of the Vremya program. In 1989, he was also appointed a political commentator for Gosteleradio of the USSR.

The period from 1987 to 1991 is considered the heyday of Molchanov's career. During this period of his life, the journalist worked on three TV projects of different formats — "Time", "Before and after midnight", "90 minutes"/"120 minutes". In the USSR, he became the first presenter of a television program, while not being a professional announcer.

From the beginning of the 90s to the end until the end of 1999, REN TV hosted cultural programs. One of them was "I remember ... I love ...", well known to viewers. From 1999 to 2000, he was also the artistic director of the Panorama information television magazine. He worked in the projects of the VGTRK holding and the RTR channel (later Russia) from 1999 to 2007.

Personal life

Since 1969, the wife of the TV presenter has been a Russian of Cuban origin, journalist, literary critic, director Consuelo Segura. The woman died at the end of 2022.

It is also known that Molchanov has a grandson Dmitry, born in 2004. Currently, he also works in the field of journalism.

Death

The journalist passed away on May 11, at the age of 75, after battling cancer.
