The Russian car market has risen to 13th place in the world ranking
By the end of April this year, the Russian car market took 13th place in the world ranking. In terms of sales of new cars, the Russian market rose by one position relative to March, ahead of Spain. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this on May 12 in his Telegram channel.
At the top of the ranking is China, where the car market immediately fell by 21.6% and amounted to 1.4 million cars. The second place was taken by the USA with a slight lag (1.38 million units; -6.7%). The Indian market came in third place (407.3 thousand units; +12.2%), ahead of the Japanese market (374 thousand units; +9.1%). Germany completed the top five (249.2 thousand units; +2.7%), Brazil is located close to it (248.3 thousand units; -7.8%).
Sales of new passenger cars in each of the other countries did not reach 200 thousand units. Canada, Italy, South Korea and the United Kingdom rounded out the top ten. Next are France and Mexico, and Russia is in 13th place in the ranking, where sales amounted to 117.5 thousand cars (+15.1%).
Before Mexico's result, the Russian market lacked only 1.4 thousand cars sold. The Spanish market, which lagged behind the Russian market by 10.6 thousand cars, and Turkey rounded out the top 15. The UK became the most growing car market among the top 15 countries (+24%). Good sales dynamics is also noted in Italy (+11.6%).
Earlier, on May 8, it was reported that in the first four months of 2026, 53.4 thousand new cars of global brands were sold in Russia, excluding Chinese, Belarusian and Russian. This is 2.4 times more than in January—April last year (+136%). The most popular of the brands whose cars are supplied to Russia unofficially is Toyota.
