Rakova named the number of college students studying nursing in the capital.

In four years, the number of applicants for the specialty "Nursing" in the capital's colleges has increased by 67%. Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor for Social Development, told Rossiyskaya Gazeta about this in an interview for Nurses' Day.

"Budget enrollment has increased almost fivefold. In total, almost 11,000 students are currently studying to be a nurse and nurse at our four colleges. Last year, nursing in the capital was in second place in popularity among college applicants and ninth—graders of Moscow schools," the deputy mayor said.

According to her, in 2024, about 3 thousand people enrolled in the specialty, of which about 1.8 thousand were on the budget. In 2025, the number of applicants increased by more than a quarter and reached almost 4 thousand.

She added that the statistics on graduate employment also demonstrate positive indicators. Last year, just over 2,000 students graduated in their specialty. Two thirds of them — 1,400 — are already working in urban medical institutions. Over 400 more people are still in the process of being employed. At the same time, about 200 graduates decided to become doctors and continued their studies at universities.

Rakova recalled that since last year, a new standard of nursing education has been introduced in the capital, which assumes a deep practice-oriented program. Students spend more than 42% of their academic time in existing medical institutions, getting to know the real medical environment.
