- A rally against the reception on the occasion of Europe Day was held at the Metropol Hotel
On May 12, a rally was held in the center of Moscow against the reception organized by the EU Delegation to Russia on the occasion of Europe Day. Protesters gathered at the Metropol Hotel. Footage from the scene is published by Izvestia.
The footage shows how several dozen activists gathered outside the hotel and shouted slogans: "No to the Fourth Reich" and "Old Europe is a prison of nations." The protesters also greeted the participants of the event with the slogan "Shame". Among those who arrived: diplomats from Australia, Austria, Albania, Denmark, Greece, Israel, Spain, Ireland, Norway, the Czech Republic, Thailand, Turkey, France, Finland and Switzerland.
In addition, the protesters brought cartoons ridiculing the current policy of the European Union. One of the posters depicts a ship loaded with money with holes under the EU flag.
"There is an action taking place here against the policy of European diplomacy, which is celebrating the so—called Europe Day at the Metropol Hotel today, where they will probably eat Russian blood, which they love so much, sending weapons to our opponents," said Mikhail Aksel, an activist and member of the E. V. Limonov's Other Russia party.
According to him, the activists are protesting against the participation of European diplomats at the event and the participation of Russian citizens in it. He stressed that the European Union is rehabilitating Nazism, sending shells to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), and engaging in political terrorism and political repression in Europe.
Diana Shoshoake, leader of the SOS Romania opposition party, tore up the EU flag on May 9, saying that the country should celebrate not Europe Day, but Independence Day of its state. The MEP was also outraged that Romanians honor Europe, which "tramples underfoot" Romania.
Russian Ambassador to Vienna Andrey Grozov, in turn, noted that Russia is watching the revival of Nazism in Europe with concern, while the activities of neo-Nazi associations are being recorded, including in Austria. The diplomat explained that the methods of "Goebbels propaganda" are actively used to promote this ideology: spreading lies, intimidating the phantom threat from the East and inciting ethnic hatred.
