In the Kaluga region, abortion was proposed to be called a "negative choice"

The word "abortion" does not reflect all the serious consequences for a woman's health, including psychological ones, so the phrase "negative choice during pregnancy" has been introduced. This was announced on May 12 by the Ministry of Health of the Kaluga region.

"In a situation where she (a woman. — Ed.) is inclined to a negative choice (abortion), which carries such consequences for a woman's health, including psychological, the word "abortion" does not fully disclose this," the publication "Rise" cites the agency.

It is noted that the new wording was proposed by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The ministry also stressed that as a result of preventive interviews and work, the number of abortions has decreased by more than seven times from 5,000 in 2015 to about 700 cases in 2025.

The measures are aimed at increasing the birth rate and reducing the number of abortions.

In turn, the chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko, said on April 3 that there would be no law in Russia prohibiting girls from undergoing artificial termination of pregnancy. According to her, the right to choose and make the final decision in this area remains with the woman.
