Military expert named a new plan after the truce in Iran
Military expert Yuri Knutov admitted that a new escalation of the conflict awaits the Middle East if an agreement satisfactory to all parties is not worked out during the visit of US President Donald Trump to China.
"If an agreement is not reached, there will be an escalation of hostilities on the part of the United States. It will not be long, because it is already clear that even a power like the United States is capable of conducting intensive military operations for no more than two months," the expert explained in an interview with aif.ru on Tuesday, May 12th.
According to him, the current truce is primarily related to the need to replenish stocks of weapons, equipment and regroup troops, and not to the desire of the United States to achieve a peaceful settlement.
In his opinion, if Washington fails to resolve the Iranian issue through China, the situation in the Middle East may sharply worsen. The expert believes that Iran does not intend to give up, and the United States is not ready for a ground operation, as it may end in defeat. At the same time, Knutov admitted the risk of a serious escalation, including discussing the use of tactical nuclear weapons to attack facilities related to the Iranian nuclear program.
The expert also noted that the United States cannot afford to admit defeat in Iran for political reasons, as this could damage the positions of Republicans and Trump's rating. According to Knutov, the American side can rely on massive strikes on the country's infrastructure and economy in order to present this as a victory.
