- The financier predicted the ranges of the dollar, euro and yuan exchange rates for the week
This week, the dollar may remain in the range of 72.50–76.50 rubles, the euro — near 84-89 rubles, the yuan — about 10.50–11.20 rubles. At the same time, the ruble continues to strengthen its position against major world currencies, despite continued external volatility and geopolitical risks. Andrey Loboda, a member of the RASO and the expert council of the Association of Forex Dealers on the development of the over-the-counter financial market, told Izvestia on May 12.
On May 9, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation set the exchange rate of the American currency at 74.2 rubles, the European currency at 88.5 rubles, and the Chinese currency at 10.9 rubles. At the same time, according to the Moscow Exchange, on May 12, the yuan is trading at 10.8 rubles.
"The Russian currency is supported by high oil prices, tight monetary policy of the Bank of Russia and limited domestic demand for foreign currency. At the same time, additional pressure is generated by the operations of the Ministry of Finance within the framework of the budget rule, as well as the strengthening of the dollar on world markets," the expert said.
The key event for the foreign exchange market this week will be the publication of data on inflation in the United States (CPI), which is scheduled for Tuesday. The expert notes that higher inflation may increase expectations of maintaining the tight policy of the Federal Reserve System, support the dollar and put pressure on the currencies of developing countries, including the ruble. At the same time, weaker data can increase investor interest in risky assets and further strengthen the position of the Russian currency.
From a technical point of view, the dollar maintains a downward trend. The nearest support zone is in the range of 70.2–72.3 rubles, while the key resistance is 76.9—79.5 rubles. As long as the exchange rate remains below 77-79 rubles, the base scenario remains a moderately strong ruble.
The euro is also moving in a downward trend. Support is in the range of 85.3–82.8 rubles, resistance is 89.8—92.4 rubles. As long as the single currency remains below 90 rubles, the pressure on it remains.
Loboda added that the situation with the yuan looks more neutral: the currency has stabilized around 10.9 rubles and is forming a local base. The nearest support is in the area of 10.33–10.65 rubles, the resistance is 11.25—11.57 rubles. The current dynamics indicate a possible slowdown in the decline and an increase in volatility in the coming weeks.
On April 27, Loboda announced that by the end of April, the dollar would remain in the range of 74-77 rubles, the euro — 87-92 rubles, and the yuan - 10.70–11.50 rubles. He also noted the impact of the Central Bank's key rate decisions and the need for a balance between reducing inflation and supporting economic growth.
