The car dealer's maximum margin on the cost of the car is 5-6%. This was stated by the head of the association "Russian Automobile Dealers" (ROAD) Alexey Podshchekoldin.

"Everyone thinks that a dealer earns half the price of a car or 20%. 5-6% is the best case scenario when they manage to sell. Most dealers provide discounts and receive lower margins," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Podshchekoldin as saying on May 12.

At the same time, as the head of the ROAD noted, last year, if the cars were in the dealer's warehouse for two months, then his margin was completely "eaten up" when selling these cars. Therefore, dealers tried to sell cars as quickly as possible and made discounts, and the buyer could bargain.

As reported on May 6, when buying a new car in the spring, car dealership customers should bargain with a dealer, since at this time there is a high chance of getting a discount on last year's car from him. As Alexey Podshchekoldin noted, the second good season for buying a new car is the end of the year, when dealers want to sell off the leftovers and also offer discounts.
