The silver medalist of the Russian Championship in 2024, Sofia Muravyeva, appealed to the Russian Figure Skating Federation with a request to expel her from the national team. This was reported on May 12 by RIA Novosti sources.

"Muravyeva asked the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) to expel her from the Russian national team. This decision of the 19-year—old athlete is associated with her desire to change her sports citizenship in the near future," the publication says.

Honored Coach of the USSR Tatiana Tarasova said that Muravyova could manage to make the transition before the Olympic Games in 2030. According to her, the figure skater probably wants to get the opportunity to compete at international tournaments, including the European, World Championships and the Olympics.

Tarasova also stressed that Muravyova's possible departure would be a loss for the Russian national team. She called the athlete a strong and notable figure skater. Last season, Muravyeva took fifth place at the Russian Championship and fulfilled the criteria for inclusion in the main squad for the next season.

A week ago, Muravyova left coach Alexei Mishin's group. The breakup with the 19-year-old athlete was initiated by the coach. The athlete is considered one of the strongest figure skaters in the country and owns a complex triple axel jump.
