The Russian Foreign Ministry stated the EU's desire to separate Armenia from Russia

The European Union (EU) is trying to weaken Armenia's ties with Russia and strengthen its influence on the republic. This was announced on May 12 by Mikhail Kalugin, Director of the Fourth CIS Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The stated goals, of course, may sound noble, but in reality the purpose of the missions is obvious — to strengthen the control of the European Union over the socio-political life and economy of the Republic (of Armenia. — Ed.), thereby contributing to the separation from Moscow," he said in an interview with TASS.

Kalugin also drew attention to the fact that European representatives deliberately create a negative image of Russia, presenting it as an opponent of Armenia's independence. In addition, according to the diplomat, the EU groundlessly accuses Moscow of hybrid attacks and interference in the internal affairs of Armenia, while ignoring its own active participation in the processes inside the republic.

"And in general, the EU has been repeatedly caught by the hand in attempts to conduct electoral processes in other countries. We notice how some Armenian media and officials are involved in spreading these messages," Kalugin concluded.

Europe's goal is to damage Yerevan's ties with Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasizes.

On May 11, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia is still a full member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and there is currently no need to hold a referendum on relations with the European Union (EU) and Russia. According to the politician, he has already discussed this topic at a working level with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
