The political scientist assessed the development of the situation with the Ermak case
On May 11, Kiev-based political analyst Andrei Zolotarev told Izvestia that Andrei Ermak, the former head of the office of President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, had only been charged with suspicion, and the issue of arrest would be decided by the court.
According to him, in the Ukrainian justice system, the final decision on the measure of restraint is made by the court.
"He has not been arrested yet. The court arrests. And he has been charged with suspicion," the expert noted.
Zolotarev pointed out that the current Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine has been significantly reformed and has limited the role of the prosecutor's office, while increasing the influence of the judicial system. According to him, the case may not end in custody and may be limited to more lenient measures such as bail.
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) charged Ermak on the same day. The agencies clarified that it was put forward under Part 3 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for the legalization of property obtained by criminal means, committed by an organized group or on an especially large scale.
The Ukrainian edition of "Country.ua reported on May 7 that ignoring new materials from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) in the case of Zelensky's associate, businessman Timur Mindich, would not help the country's authorities reduce the consequences of the corruption scandal. According to the newspaper, the main blow is aimed at Zelensky's entourage.
Political analyst Ivan Mezyuho noted on April 16 that the discussion of the corruption scandal in Ukraine involving Ermak had subsided, but the case could be re-launched at any second. According to Mezyuho, the Ukrainian leader Zelensky himself did everything to interrupt the information flows.
