- The EC announced the deadline for the first provision of the first tranche of the new loan to Kiev
The European Commission (EC) intends to provide Ukraine with the first tranche of a loan of €90 billion next week. This was announced on May 11 by the European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
"I hope that next week we will be able to distribute the first payments," she said at a briefing in Brussels.
Kos added that the funds from the EC will be used to purchase weapons for Kiev, there and to ensure the work of Ukrainian government agencies.
The Berliner Zeitung newspaper noted on April 27 that the loan provided to Ukraine by EU representatives in the amount of €90 billion increases the pressure exerted on it by funds based on the territory of the alliance. According to the newspaper, even despite the additional €90 billion, there will be a deficit in Ukraine's budget in 2027.
The provision of a loan of €90 billion to the Ukrainian side was approved on April 23. The funds will be received by the EU in the Eurobond format, which will be paid by European countries. According to the plan, €30 billion of this amount should be spent on supporting macroeconomics, and the remaining €60 billion should be spent on developing military-industrial potential.
The Wall Street Journal newspaper said on April 27 that this step was insufficient for Kiev, as its needs had grown during the time when financial assistance was approved.
