Stubb acknowledged the need for direct negotiations between Europe and Russia
Europe should start direct negotiations with Russia, because US policy does not meet European interests. This was stated on May 11 by Finnish President Alexander Stubb in an interview with the newspaper Corriere della Sera.
"If the American policy towards Russia and Ukraine does not meet the interests of Europe, as I believe, then we need to enter into a direct dialogue. Yes, it's time to start a conversation with Russia," he said.
According to Stubb, he does not know when this will happen, since European leaders have already discussed the issue of negotiations with the Russian Federation. The Finnish President added that the participants in the future dialogue have not yet determined the format of contacts — Europe may send one special envoy or a group of leaders.
