Passengers of the MV Hondius cruise ship are recommended to be quarantined for up to 42 days. This was announced on May 10 by the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

"Our recommendations are unequivocal: starting on May 10, 42 days of active surveillance, that is, 42 days of quarantine," Ghebreyesus said at a briefing after the first day of evacuation of passengers of the MV Hondius ship, which docked in the Canary Islands, his words are quoted by TASS.

In addition, he noted that quarantine can be carried out at home or in a special facility. The head of WHO also stressed that the recommendations are voluntary.

The cruise ship MV Hondius, where an outbreak of hantavirus was recorded at the beginning of the month, arrived at the shores of the Spanish island on May 10 to evacuate. It was reported that at least three deaths of passengers from a strain that may be called "Andes" were detected on the ship.

On May 9, Reuters reported that two suspected cases of hantavirus infection had been identified in Spain and the Tristan da Cunha archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean. It was clarified that these people are not related to the MV Hondius liner, where the outbreak occurred earlier.

On May 10, the Russian embassy in Madrid reported that a Russian from the crew of the liner on which the outbreak of the virus was recorded would remain on board the ship until the Netherlands, where disinfection would be carried out.
