British military personnel landed from the air on the Tristan da Cunha archipelago in the South Atlantic to help a man who was suspected of having a hantavirus infection. This was reported on May 10 on the website of the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom.

The group includes six paratroopers and two military doctors from the 16th Airborne Assault Brigade. They parachuted from an A400M Atlas military transport aircraft to bring medical aid to a remote archipelago.

The ministry noted that this is the first such operation in the experience of the military. At the same time, necessary oxygen supplies and other medical supplies were dropped from the air onto the island.

"In conditions of critical oxygen shortage on the island, the only way to provide timely assistance to the patient was to deliver medical staff from the air. The operation will ensure the uninterrupted operation of the entire healthcare system in Tristan da Cunha by supporting a two-person medical team," the military said.

It was clarified that these people are not related to the MV Hondius liner, where the outbreak occurred earlier.
