Zenit St. Petersburg beat Sochi at home in the match of the 29th round of the Russian Football Championship and topped the RPL standings. The match took place on Sunday in St. Petersburg and ended with a score of 2:1 in favor of the hosts.

The visitors led after the first half — Zakhar Fedorov scored in the 31st minute. Zenit scored a strong-willed victory with precise strikes from Luis Enrique (59th minute) and Alexander Erokhin (84th minute). Luis Enrique missed a penalty in the 13th minute.

Before the match, players, coaches and referees took to the field with portraits of relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War as part of the "Immortal Regiment" campaign, which is held by the RFU at Russian Cup, RPL, First and Second League matches dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Victory.

99-year-old Vladimir Kolosov, a war veteran, a participant in the defense of Leningrad and one of the oldest Zenit fans, struck the ball symbolically before the starting whistle.

Zenit scored 65 points and rose to first place, ahead of Krasnodar, which has a match in reserve (63 points), which will play Dynamo Moscow on Monday. Sochi closes the table with 21 points.

On May 7, Krasnodar football Club defeated Dynamo Moscow in the second leg of the final of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Cup of Russia. The match ended with a score of 6:5 in a penalty shootout.
