The Romanian MEP defiantly tore up the EU flag on Europe Day.

Diana Shoshoake, leader of the SOS Romania opposition party, tore up the EU flag on May 9, saying that the country should celebrate not Europe Day, but the independence Day of its state.

"We should not celebrate Europe Day, but Romania's Independence Day. People should know what they need to celebrate: don't be a pig on Europe Day, let's celebrate our own things," Shoshoake later explained on social media.

The politician posted on her Facebook page (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) a video of an unusual performance in which she and several supporters tear up the EU flag. Shoshoake noted that as part of this campaign, "I wanted to get my part of Europe, take my Romania." The MEP was also outraged that instead Romanians honor Europe, which "tramples underfoot" Romania.

On May 9, Russian Ambassador to Vienna Andrei Grozov said that Russia was watching the rise of Nazism in Europe with concern, while the activities of neo-Nazi associations were being recorded, including in Austria. The diplomat explained that the methods of "Goebbels propaganda" are actively used to promote this ideology: spreading lies, intimidating the phantom threat from the East and inciting ethnic hatred.
