A solemn ceremony of unveiling a monument to the great Russian poet Sergei Yesenin was held in the city of Golubovci, a suburb of the capital of Montenegro. The event on May 9 was timed to coincide with the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).

The monument became an author's copy of the monument to Yesenin, which has been installed in the Russian city of Voronezh for many years, and is intended as a symbol of cultural ties between the two countries and cities. The Russian Ambassador to Montenegro, Alexander Lukashik, was invited to the ceremony, and the poet's poems were recited at the opening of the monument.

"Do not destroy these monuments, send them to us in the Zeta, we will find a place for them, because we know that we preserve the traditions of our ancestors," said Milan Knezevic, leader of the opposition Democratic People's Party of Montenegro.

On May 9, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, at talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that the republic would continue to take care of the cemeteries of soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the republic.

Putin thanked the leadership and people of Slovakia for their careful treatment of the monuments and graves of Soviet soldiers who fell in battle on Slovak soil. The Russian president noted that the opening of the central military memorial cemetery of the Red Army in the city of Mikhalovets is expected in the near future.
