A new course on the history of the capital has appeared in Moscow schools
A new course on the history of Moscow has been introduced in the capital's schools. This was stated by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, noting that the course, designed for students in grades 5-7, was developed by leading Moscow historians and teachers.
"In the fifth grade, children study the history of the city from ancient times to the middle of the XVI century, in the sixth — from the middle of the XVI century to the beginning of the XX century," Sobyanin wrote in his channel in Maks. — The last part of the course is devoted to the events of modern history — it takes place in the 7th grade."
The textbooks contain a large number of tasks of different difficulty levels, illustrations, as well as historical maps with questions and tasks. The key sections are "Riddles of Moscow", "What are the names hiding?", "Moscow and Muscovites". Students will be able to get acquainted with historical facts, learn about the origin of the capital's toponyms and prominent personalities associated with the history of Moscow.
The textbook has been supplemented with an electronic version, which can be obtained by QR code and on the portal of my Moscow.online. In particular, it presents guided tours of historical sites.
As the mayor noted, the development of educational programs and the formation of interest in the history and culture of his native city is one of the objectives of the project "All the best for children" of the national project "Youth and Children".
In April, Sobyanin announced that about 750 school buildings would be renovated in Moscow by the end of 2033. The mayor recalled that in 2024-2025, under the My School program, the city carried out a complete reconstruction of 55 school buildings. Several dozen more facilities are planned to be renovated this year.
In addition to the reconstruction of existing buildings, Moscow continues to build new educational institutions, the mayor noted. In 2025, more than 50 new schools and kindergartens were opened in the capital, and about 60 more are planned for 2026.
