Energy opportunities for the European Union (EU) and Britain in the context of the energy crisis have become worse against the background of strengthening cooperation between Russia and China in the oil and gas sector. This was announced on May 10 by Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

"The energy capabilities of the EU and the UK have only worsened in the face of the worst energy crisis," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

This is how Dmitriev reacted to the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin that the Russian Federation and China have reached a high degree of agreement to take a serious step forward in cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

On the same day, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national conservative Freedom Alliance party, stressed that the European Union needs to resume energy purchases from Russia in order to avoid an energy crisis.

On May 7, Dmitriev drew attention to the fact that the current economic crisis in the EU countries was a direct result of the refusal to supply Russian energy resources.

On April 24, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on the EU's position on Russian energy resources, recalled an anecdote about mice that eat cactus. She called the main characteristic of the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions statements that the EU has started working on the 21st package. In her opinion, this is a "theater of the absurd."
