Khamzat Chimaev, a mixed martial artist of Chechen origin, suffered his first defeat in his career. He lost to the former belt holder, American Sean Strickland, and was unable to defend the title of the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) in the middleweight division.
The main fight of the UFC 328 tournament, which took place in Newark (New Jersey), ended with Chimaev's defeat by a split decision of the judges after five rounds.
For the 32-year-old Chechen, this is the first defeat in 15 victories. Strickland won for the 31st time with seven defeats in professional MMA. The fight took place with full stands. It was the first fight for Chimaev after a long break due to injury.
Chimaev kicked his opponent a Strickland during the traditional battle of looks after the press conference before the UFC 328 tournament.
