Representatives of Russia and the United States held telephone talks for two days before reaching an agreement on a truce and prisoner exchange with Ukraine. This was announced on Saturday, May 9, by Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

"We held telephone talks on this issue for two days, representatives of the Russian and American administrations," Ushakov said.

Ushakov said on May 9 that Russia hopes that the US president will be able to discipline the Ukrainian side on the issue of observing the truce until May 11. He added that in one of the recent statements, American leader Donald Trump expressed hope for an extension of the truce, but this is "an unfounded hope."
