Betty Broderick, convicted of murdering her ex-husband, has died.

Betty Broderick, convicted of murdering her ex-husband Daniel Broderick III and his wife Linda Colken Broderick, who was the subject of several films and TV series, has died at the age of 78. This was reported on May 9 by NBC News, citing representatives of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

According to the TV channel, Broderick was taken from the California facility where she was being held to a medical center on April 18. It is specified that she died on April 24.

Broderick was convicted of the second murder in 1991. She was found guilty of the deaths of her ex-husband and his wife and sentenced to 32 years in prison. Betty and Daniel Broderick got married in 1969. In the late 1980s, the man began an affair with Kolken, and in 1985 filed for divorce. After that, a four-year dispute over custody of the children and the family home began. The husband got custody, and the ex-wife was given the right to see the children.

In 1989, Broderick, using her daughter's key, entered her ex-husband's bedroom and shot him and his wife with a five-shot revolver. At the trial, she admitted that she had shot, but claimed that a difficult divorce and custody dispute had pushed her to do so.

The woman's story has formed the basis of several film adaptations. In 1992, two films were released: "The Offended Woman" and "Her Last Fury." Later, based on Broderick's story, one of the seasons of the anthology series Dirty John was filmed.
