Putin and Gagloev signed an agreement on deepening allied cooperation

The new alliance agreement between Russia and South Ossetia will deepen cooperation between the states, including in the trade and economic sphere. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, May 9.

The Head of State held a meeting in the Kremlin with President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev, who arrived in Moscow to celebrate the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).

Putin noted that Gagloev was personally involved in the development of the document.

In addition, the Russian president drew attention to the fact that May 9 is widely celebrated in South Ossetia, because the citizens of the republic took an active part in the Great Patriotic War. According to Putin, in terms of population, the republic ranks first in terms of the number of heroes of the Soviet Union per capita.

"Eight people out of 34 Ossetians were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. And almost half of those who went to the front did not return. This is a big loss. And of course, both South Ossetia and Ossetia as a whole — the people of Ossetia can be proud of their ancestors. This is a bright, heroic page in the history of the Ossetian people," the Russian leader said.
