On May 9, Czech canoeist Martin Fuchs did not attend the World Cup winners' award ceremony in Hungary, where he and Russian Zakhar Petrov were supposed to be awarded gold medals.

Initially, the judges recognized the Czech representative as the winner in the 1,000-meter race. Zakhar Petrov was listed as the second in the protocol, 0.01 seconds behind the leader. However, after a thorough review of the photo finish, the arbitrators decided to give the gold to both athletes. The third place was taken by Italian Gabriele Casadei.

Only Petrov and Kazadei attended the award ceremony. The Czech athlete did not appear on the podium.

The competition in Hungary is the first ranking start in the qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Russian athletes compete in the tournament under the auspices of the International Canoe Federation (ICF) in a neutral status.

On April 26, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) announced that ten Russian rowers had received neutral status. Currently, more than 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus have neutral status. In April 2023, the ICF Board decided to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions as individual neutral athletes.
