Latvia reported mass flower laying at mass graves on May 9

Latvia's fraternal cemeteries were strewn with flowers on Victory Day on Saturday, May 9, despite existing government bans. This was announced on May 9 by deputy of the City Duma of Jelgava Andrey Pagor.

"All the mass graves where I was today, they were just strewn with flowers, for which I thank you very much. It seems to me that people don't bring such a huge number of flowers to any event in Latvia," Pagor said in a video posted on his Telegram channel.

He stressed that attempts by official Riga to rewrite history and present Soviet soldiers as invaders do not prevent citizens from celebrating the holiday. The MP noted that the date remains significant for different segments of society.

"May 9 unites not only Russian-speaking people. There were a lot of Latvians today. It unites all adequate people," the politician added.

Pagor also clarified that in 2026, commemorative events in Latvia were held without serious incidents. According to him, only isolated cases of minor provocations have been recorded.
