The Israeli authorities have deployed a secret military base in the desert in Iraq to launch airstrikes against Iran. This was reported on May 9 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.

"Israel established a secret military outpost in the Iraqi desert to support its air campaign against Iran and carried out airstrikes against Iraqi forces," the publication says.

According to the interlocutors of the publication, the Israeli army has built a facility to accommodate special forces. The base also serves as a logistics center for the country's air force. Sources claim that the object appeared shortly before the outbreak of hostilities against Iran.

Search and rescue teams are also stationed at the base. Their tasks include searching for Israeli pilots in the event of an ejection from downed aircraft. According to one of the unnamed sources, there are soldiers of the Israeli Air Force special forces at the facility, who are trained to conduct sabotage operations on enemy territory.

WSJ sources added that the secret facility in the Iraqi desert was almost discovered in March of this year.
