Lukashenko calls revanchists enemies of Belarus

On May 9, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said during a wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory Monument in Minsk that the country's opponents and enemies were revanchist forces who, according to him, were removing the graves of Soviet soldiers and trying to present the feat of the Soviet people as fiction.

"Our enemy is the revanchists, the direct ideological descendants of the SS, Bandera and the forest brothers. Those who are currently removing the remains of Soviet soldiers from Lithuanian Shauliai and calling the feat of the Soviet people a myth. Those who methodically erase the victory of the Red Army from the history of World War II and do not allow us to visit the burial sites of our grandfathers and great—grandfathers," TASS quoted him as saying.

The Belarusian leader said that today fascism can take on other forms, but its essence remains the same. He also noted that sentiments related to the ideas of exclusivity and superiority of individual states are increasing in the world, which, according to him, leads to new conflicts and division.

In a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 8, Lukashenko said that victory in the Great Patriotic War should not be given to anyone. He also noted that Victory Day is a kind and bright holiday. The Belarusian leader stressed that Belarusians lost every third person in this war, and no president of Belarus can afford to throw this great victory under his feet.
