On May 9, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called the intention of the European Union (EU) states to abandon energy resources from Russia ideological and harmful to European competitiveness.

"I consider the intention of the European Union to completely abandon Russian energy resources to be ideologically oriented and harmful to European competitiveness," the Slovak Prime Minister said in a video message posted on Facebook following his visit to Moscow (owned by Meta Corporation, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

Kirill Dmitriev, the Special Representative of the President of Russia for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, said on May 7 that the current economic crisis in the EU countries was a direct result of the refusal to supply Russian energy resources. Dmitriev also said that the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Diplomacy Kaya Kallas, Merz, as well as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are responsible for the wrong decisions and the crisis.
