German politician Niemeyer apologized for fascism and the outbreak of war

On May 9, the head of the German Council for Constitution and Sovereignty, Ralf Niemeyer, apologized for fascism and the outbreak of World War II.

"I apologize for fascism and the war. For us Germans, this is not the day of surrender, but the day of liberation from fascism. Whoever doesn't celebrate on May 9th today has lost. Thank you to the Soviet Union, thank you to Russia," the politician said on Facebook (owned by Meta Corporation, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

Niemeyer stressed that Germans should remember the Red Army's liberation mission and the price the Soviet people paid for defeating Nazism.

On the same day, Russian Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan, in a congratulatory message on the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), called for attempts to justify Nazi criminals and whitewash their atrocities to be prevented. He also congratulated veterans, home front workers, former prisoners of fascism and all compatriots on the holiday, wishing them health, kindness, prosperity and peace.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on the same day that Western countries do not so sacredly honor the results of the Second World War, which laid the foundation for the long-term development of the world. Lavrov added that Nazism, defeated in those years, "raises its head" and tries to rewrite history. As an example, he cited European countries, some of whose politicians are calling for "repeating the experience" of Adolf Hitler and attacking the Russian Federation.
