An action "Immortal Regiment" was held in Gori, the hometown of Joseph Stalin. The footage is published by Izvestia on May 9.

"It's unusually crowded here in Gori, near the Stalin House Museum. People from all over the country came here to celebrate May 9th together. Those who came laid flowers at the monument to Joseph Stalin and thereby reminded the whole world that Georgians and Russians fought together in that great war," said journalist Giorgi Jabishvili.

The chairman of the Solidarity for Peace party, Mikhail Jgenti, also spoke at the event. According to him, Victory Day brought liberation to millions of citizens not only of the Soviet Union, but also of the whole world.

"We want to state once again: we thought that the fascist had been defeated, but, unfortunately, fascism of a different kind, of a different pattern, is unfolding before our eyes. Our meeting, rally, and march today will be timed to restore direct dialogue with Russia, to restore the friendly relations that we had with Russia, with fraternal Soviet countries," Jgenti said.

He also called for the restoration of the monument to Stalin, which was demolished during the years of unrest in Georgia, adding that the Georgian people then could not fully understand the role of the great leader in the Great Victory.

Izvestia published footage of the Immortal Regiment action in Geneva, Switzerland, the day before. The participants gathered in front of the United Nations (UN) headquarters. They came with photos of their ancestors who participated in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).

The Immortal Regiment was also held in Washington, Amsterdam, Frankfurt am Main and Panama. In addition, on May 9, the event will be held in Iceland and Britain. In Russia in 2026, this action, as Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reported on May 7, will be held in electronic format.
