Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is acting as an intermediary between Russia and Ukraine on a number of issues. On May 9, the deputy speaker of the Slovak Parliament, Tibor Gaspar, told Izvestia.

"Our Prime Minister Robert Fico recently visited Yerevan, where he was in contact with the Ukrainian president. He had a short conversation with Mr. [President of Ukraine Vladimir] Zelensky, and I assume that some topics will be raised in a conversation with the president, Mr. [Russian Leader Vladimir] Putin. Therefore, I believe that Robert Fico is currently acting as a kind of mediator on a number of issues, and I believe that the situation will move in a positive direction," Gaspar said.

According to him, the leaders of the Russian Federation and Slovakia will also discuss topics related to energy security and energy supplies from the Russian Federation to Europe.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said yesterday that during a meeting in Moscow, Fico intends to convey a message from Zelensky to Putin. Fico said on the same day that he planned to discuss existing differences with Putin and ask the Russian leader questions.

Fico arrived in Moscow on May 8 to celebrate the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII). During this visit, he also plans to meet with the Russian president.
