Riga residents laid flowers at the monument to Soviet soldiers on Victory Day.
On Victory Day, residents of the Latvian capital carry flowers to the monument to Soviet soldiers located at the Pokrovsky Cemetery in Riga. The footage is published by Izvestia on May 9.
People lay carnations and other flowers at the foot of the monument, next to which memorial candles are also lit. There is a massive presence of police officers at the scene of the event.
On the monument to which the flowers are laid, it is written: "Eternal glory to the heroes who fell for the independence of our Motherland."
On the same day, Russian Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan, in a congratulatory message on the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), called for attempts to justify Nazi criminals and whitewash their atrocities to be prevented. He also congratulated veterans, home front workers, former prisoners of fascism and all compatriots on the holiday, wishing them health, kindness, prosperity and peace.
