Diplomats from Russia and friendly countries, ambassadors and staff of Russian institutions laid flowers at the grave of Soviet intelligence officer Richard Sorge on the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) at the Tama Rayen cemetery in a suburb of Tokyo. This was reported by RIA Novosti on May 9.

"Today, when the peoples of our countries celebrate a common great Victory Day, we traditionally gather here to worship the feat of Soviet intelligence officer Richard Sorge," said Russian Ambassador to Japan Nikolai Nozdryov.

It is noted that representatives of the diplomatic missions of Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan took part in the ceremony. The fallen during the Second World War were honored with a minute of silence. According to Nozdrev, Sorge's group's activities were close to the Japanese Prime Minister, and the intelligence officer himself received unique information through contacts with Nazi German delegations.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on the afternoon of May 7 that the Center military group had restored more than 80 monuments, mass graves and memorials in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) for the 81st anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The military cleaned the walls, repaired the paths, restored the figures of soldiers and tinted the elements of the memorials. It is noted that the work was carried out on the initiative of military personnel in their free time from combat missions.
