On May 8, US President Donald Trump said he expected Iran to respond to the United States' peace proposals soon.

"They are expected to deliver the letter tonight. We'll see what happens next," he said during a conversation with reporters.

On May 6, Trump said it was "too early" to talk about direct peace talks with representatives of the Islamic Republic. The Reuters news agency learned that the Iranian authorities called the text of the American side a "wish list" rather than a reality.

Later, on May 7, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf ironically commented on media reports about a possible agreement between Washington and Tehran, calling the United States military operation "Trust me, bro."
