The European Commission (EC) predicts a shortage of jet fuel if the Middle East conflict continues. This is evidenced on May 8 by a document published on the EC website.

"If the conflict [in the Middle East] continues, supply disruptions may occur, especially aviation fuel. Travelers may experience disruptions, including delays, flight cancellations, increased travel time and higher prices," the text says.

The document indicates that representatives of the aviation industry are currently considering the possibility of using Jet A fuel instead of the Jet A-1 brand familiar to Europe, and the EC is thinking about exemptions for airlines, according to which they will be allowed not to follow the rule on refueling 90% of fuel at airports of the European Union (EU).

In addition, the commission has taken temporary state support measures for other modes of transport that have been affected by high diesel fuel prices.

The Guardian newspaper reported on April 16 that aviation fuel reserves in Europe could last for about six weeks, after which flight cancellations are possible amid the conflict with Iran.

The Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported on May 7 that airlines that cancel flights due to rising fuel prices are required to compensate passengers. EU Transport Commissioner Anpostolos Tsitsikotas said that flight cancellations due to rising fuel prices are not considered extraordinary circumstances, which means that airlines are still required to compensate passengers for losses.
