On May 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the visit of Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Moscow on the eve of Victory Day a sign of special relations between the countries.

"We are aware that in modern conditions, in today's conditions, our meetings, including even festive events, are a manifestation and a sign of a special relationship. Relations are not just friendship, I would say fraternal cooperation," he said during a meeting with the President of Uzbekistan.
