Russia supports Trump's initiative to extend the truce until May 11.
Russia has agreed to support US President Donald Trump's initiative to extend the truce with Ukraine until May 11. This was announced on May 8 by Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.
"On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, I confirm the acceptability for the Russian side of the initiative just proposed by the President of the United States regarding the truce," Ushakov said.
According to him, Moscow also agreed to conduct a prisoner exchange with Kiev in the "thousand for a thousand" format during this period.
The Russian leader's aide noted that Trump's initiative is symbolically linked to the 81st anniversary of the Victory over Nazism.
Earlier in the day, Trump expressed hope that a truce between Russia and Ukraine could begin to end the conflict. The head of the White House added that at the designated time, on his initiative, the parties will also make an exchange of prisoners.
