The media reported Carlson's criticism of Merz for his position on Iranian nuclear weapons

On May 8, American journalist Tucker Carlson criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who repeatedly called on Iran to abandon its nuclear program.

"Let's take Friedrich Merz! He stated that he agrees with [US President] Trump that Iran should not have nuclear weapons. Really, Mr. Merz?" said Carlson in an interview with the German newspaper Die Zeit.

He also noted serious economic problems and high energy prices, which are twice as high as in the United States. According to the journalist, the German Chancellor should pay attention to domestic issues instead of the issue of nuclear weapons in Iran.

Merz said on May 7 that Germany is currently experiencing difficulties due to structural problems in the country that have been ignored for a long time. He also announced plans to accelerate the process of internal reforms and urged German citizens to be patient with the government's changes.

Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Berlin Chamber of Deputies from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, said on the same day that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz could not cope with solving urgent problems. According to him, the German government continues to spend billions of euros on Ukraine, EU projects and foreign programs, while the country's internal problems remain unresolved. Lindemann pointed to the crisis of the pension system, saying that many elderly Germans do not have enough money to live after decades of work.
