Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan had a telephone conversation on Friday, May 8. The key topic of the conversation was the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, including the discussions on this issue within the United Nations (UN).

During the talks, the Russian side emphasized the need to support dialogue between Iran and the United States.

"Moscow's position was confirmed on the inadmissibility of endangering the prospects for stabilization by resuming hostilities, as a result of which civilians suffer and civilian infrastructure is damaged both in Iran and in neighboring Arab countries," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website.

The heads of departments agreed to keep in touch to coordinate the positions of all parties involved. The purpose of the joint work is to find ways to resolve the situation in a long-term and sustainable manner, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

During the conversation, Zayed Al Nahyan congratulated Lavrov on the upcoming Victory Day. The Ministers stressed the importance of strengthening the multilateral system of international relations established on the basis of the UN Charter following the Second World War.

The diplomats also touched upon topical issues of bilateral cooperation and discussed the schedule of upcoming contacts between Russia and the UAE.
