Astronauts aboard the ISS congratulated Russians on Victory Day
Russian cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, Sergey Mikaev and Andrey Fedyaev, aboard the International Space Station (ISS), congratulated Russian citizens on Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. The footage of the video message was published on May 9 by the Roscosmos state Corporation.
"We, Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, Sergey Mikaev and Andrey Fedyaev, sincerely congratulate you on Victory Day! 81 years ago, our ancestors defeated a ruthless enemy who sought to wipe out entire nations from the face of the earth. It is to our country that the world owes its liberation from such a phenomenon as fascism," Kud—Sverchkov said.
Sergey Mikaev, in turn, noted that the victory in the Second World War is an example of the courage, perseverance and heroism that Soviet citizens showed to the whole world. According to him, thanks to the feat of Soviet soldiers, people can now dream and build a future.
"Today we bow our heads before the feat of those who stopped the enemy and brought a Great Victory. We pay tribute to the people who forged weapons in the rear, despite hunger, bombing and devastation. <...> Let the memory of these great feats always live in our hearts and inspire us and our descendants to new achievements," concluded Fedyaev.
On May 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the leaders and citizens of foreign countries on the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Head of State noted that this day is a day of gratitude to the fathers and grandfathers who fought together on the fields of the Second World War, bringing the long-awaited victory over Nazism closer. The Russian leader also conveyed words of gratitude and congratulations to veterans and home front workers who live in foreign countries.
