Trump appealed to Russia and Ukraine to exchange prisoners "1,000 for 1,000."

On May 8, US President Donald Trump proposed to Russia and Ukraine to conduct a prisoner exchange in the "1,000 by 1,000" format during the truce, which will last from May 9 to 11.

"This ceasefire will include the suspension of all hostilities, as well as the exchange of prisoners for 1,000 people from each country. This request was made directly by me, and I really appreciate its approval by the President Vladimir Putin and the President of [Ukraine] Vladimir Zelensky," the American leader wrote on the Truth Social network.

Trump expressed hope that this truce would be the "beginning of the end" of the conflict in Ukraine. He also recalled that negotiations on the settlement are ongoing.
