The Russian ambassador linked Germany's anti-Russian policy with the justification of spending on militarization

The German authorities are pursuing a Russophobic policy in order to justify their colossal spending on the rearmament of the Bundeswehr. This was announced to Izvestia on May 8 by Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev during the laying of wreaths at the Soviet war memorial in Berlin.

"A well—known campaign related to the militarization of the country is being launched against us. <...> In order, mainly, to convince the population that the enormous resources aimed at militarization of the country are [justified]," he said.

Nechaev added that the money in question is being spent on the purchase of military equipment and increasing the combat readiness of troops. He clarified that all these actions are being carried out "on a hot head" in preparation for an alleged attack by the Russian Federation. According to representatives of the German side, this will happen at the turn of 2029-2030.

"We are trying to do everything possible to ensure that the falsification of history is not allowed," he stressed.

In this context, the Ambassador noted that the Russian side is also making efforts to prevent falsification at its numerous memorials in Germany.

On December 22, 2025, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov pointed to the baseless obsession of Western countries with the "chimera" of an alleged Russian attack. Speaking with this thesis at the discussion "(Non–)strategic stability - 2025: the results of the year in the field of international security," he stressed that Moscow does not intend to attack anyone. On December 19, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that the image of an enemy was being deliberately created from the Russian Federation. This is necessary, according to him, in order for the West to cover up its own mistakes.

In Germany, meanwhile, on May 8 of this year, rallies broke out, which were attended by schoolchildren. The minors took to the streets of Berlin and 11 other cities and called on their Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, to go to the front himself. It was noted that the appropriate reaction of schoolchildren and their parents was prompted by the government's policy of militarization.
